Letterkenny AC Club Notes

September 2009

THE ANNUAL presentation night will take place in the Mount Errigal Hotel on Friday night (September 25) at 7.30pm.

Tickets, priced €25 for adults and €10 for juveniles, are available from club officers. Family reductions will apply. We’d appeal to all athletes, juvenile and senior, parents and club members to come along and support the function and enjoy the social evening.

The marathon fundraiser was launched on Monday night in Tir na Nog. Several athletes from the club are running the Dublin City Marthaton in October and the proceeds from our athletes will be going to the Donegal Diabetes Federation (see separate reports in papers).

Last Sunday was another memorable day in the annals of the club history when we took the top four places in the last Grand Prix 5k series of the season in Stranorlar-Ballybofey. LAC also won the senior men’s title and our own Ivan Toner lifted the prestigious grand prix title. Well done to Ivan who had a tremendous season on the Grand Prix circuit and all his hard work on the training front paid rich dividends.

The first man home in the 5k hosted by Finn Valley AC was LAC’s Ciaran Doherty in a time of 15.24. He was followed by the ever improving Gary Crossan (15.33), the ageless Pauric McKinney (15.34) and the highly impressive Danny Mooney in fourth place in a time of 15.59.

In all we had eight athletes in the top ten. The others were Johnny Patton (6th-16.18), Darren McBrearty (7th-16.23), Ivan Toner (8th-16.26) and Kevin Ferry (10th-16.44).

There were also very strong runs from Paul McGlinchey (17.09), Brian Thursby (17.27), Marty Gormley (17.46), John Daly (17.54), Ciaran O’Donnell (17.57) and Ciaran O’Sullivan (18.02). Well done to all the other athletes. Check the local papers and our website for results of this race. Well done to all the organisers for a fine event.

Congratulations to all those involved in the highly successful Flag Day fundraiser recently. Well done to Garvan, Laura, Sharon and Mark for their tremendous work and thanks so much to everyone in the club and community that supported the event. The club launched our Dublin City Marathon fundraiser on Monday night in Tir na Nog.

Well done to Gavin Crawford who finished second in a duathlon at the weekend in Wicklow.

The winning numbers in the lotto which took place at The Glencar Inn on Saturday night were: 4,12,15 and 16. There were two match three winners- Mary and Pajo and Dan McMenamin who won €40 each. The jackpot in The Glencar Inn this weekend is €1,380.
