Toner clinches grand prix crown in Stranorlar

Doherty leads Letterkenny to Donegal 5K Road Championship title

Letterkenny AC’s Ciaran Doherty and Inishowen AC’s Helena Crossan took the Donegal 5K senior road championship titles on Sunday in Stranorlar hosted by Finn Valley.

Doherty also led Letterkenny to the senior men’s team title in a time of 15:24, with his club mates, Gary Crossan and Pauric McKinney, taking second and third respectively in 15:33 and 15:34 A total of 132 people took part in what was the last in the 26 race series organised by the Donegal Athletics Board.

Ivan Toner of Letterkenny AC took the honours in the grand prix series, with James Brown of Inishowen second and Pauric O’Donnell of Letterkenny third. Inishowen’s Helena Crossan won the senior women’s section from the Finn Valley duo of Teresa McGloin and Cliodhna Dunne.

Paddy Doherty of Inishowen won the masters men section, with Martin Gormley of Letterkenny second and Finn Valley’s Pat Hegarty third. Finn Valleys Gloria Donaghy topped the standing in the masters women section, from Vera Haughey of Tir Chonaill and Laura Corbett from Letterkenny.
