Letterkenny AC Club Notes
September 2009
THE Annual Presentation night for Letterkenny Athletic Club will take place next Friday, September 25 in the Mount Errigal Hotel at 7.30pm.
Tickets are €25 per adult and €10 for juveniles. Family reductions will apply. We’d ask all club members, families and supporters to come out and enjoy what should be a memorable evening for everyone.
It has been a another hugely successful year at juvenile and adult level for the club and a large number of awards will be made on the night. The club committee will have a special guest for the night- further details later.
Also, next Monday night (September 21) our Dublin City Marathon fundraiser will be launched in Tir Na Nog at 8pm. Several athletes from the club will be running in Dublin at the end of October and the charity to benefit this year is the Donegal Diabetes Federation.
Everyone is welcome to come along-athletes who are doing the run, members and supporters.
THE Annual General Meeting of the club took place on Tuesday night in The Mount Errigal Hotel. After two years at the helm our Chairman, Ciaran O’Donnell has stepped down.
Ciaran was a fantastic chairman and brought the club to a ‘new level’ in all aspects of our development and his absence will leave a void that is hard to fill. However, thankfully, he will be on the committee. The new chairman is Gerry Davenport. Good luck Gerry and his team for the year ahead. A former chairman of the club, Gerry, brings a lot of experience to the post and has been recently at the helm of the Community Games organisation in Ireland. Good luck to Gerry and his team for the year ahead.
The full committee is as follows; Chairman: Gerry Davenport, Vice-Chairman: C.J McGinley, Secretary: Laura Corbett, Assistant Secretary: Catherine Russell, Treasurer: Eunan Kelly, Assistant Treasurer: Garvan McCloskey, Registrar: Martin Gormley, PRO: C.J.McGinley, Juvenile PRO: Neil Cullen, Juvenile Registrar: Terri Boyle, Senior Club Captain: Gary Crossan and Vice Captain: Danny McDaid and Maria McCambridge.
The following is a list of the committee members elected on the night. They were; Ciaran O’Donnell, Brendan McDaid, Anthony Ward, Sharon Bradley, Michael Black, Neilly Mc Daid, Aidan McKenna, Kevin Ferry, Sean Crossan, Mark Bolton, Danny Mooney and Sean McBrearty.
Congratulations to all involved in organising the Killer K last Friday night. The event, hosted by Arena 7, was a great spectacle and will build well in the future. Up to 30 athletes took part and it was very enjoyable. The participants included kickboxing star, Tommy McCafferty and GAA players, Rory Kavanagh and Conal Dunne.
The winner of the 1k was Danny Mooney (3.21) followed by Mark English and Gary Crossan. The team event was won by the Mount Errigal team of Gary Crossan, Maria McCarmbridge and Danny Mooney. Hopefully, this will be a novel annual event. Well done to ‘Maca’ and all the team at Arena 7 for organising the event, prizes and refreshments afterwards.
The Ballyare 10 K took place on Saturday and our athletes stole the show with the top three finishers. Ciaran Doherty won the race in a time of 32.33 followed by Johnny Patton (33.38) and Michael Black (33.40). Well done to the following athletes: Gerry McMonagle (38.50).
