With the Grand Prix now over and the cross country season not starting until October, this weekend provided a lull in competitive action for most Letterkenny AC runners.
However, a few LAC runners still found competitive action. 2012 London Olympics Marathon runner, Catriona Jennings, has recently joined LAC. The Letterkenny native had an excellent run in the Dublin Half Marathon on Saturday, one of several official build up races for the Dublin Marathon. Catriona was 3rd in the women’s race in 1.20.33, just a minute behind 2nd placed Catriona McKiernan, former London and Berlin Marathon winner. The race winner was Barbara Sanchez in 1.18.26.
Peter McLean- ‘Mr Letterkenny parkrun’- returned from holiday in Florida to patrol his usual Saturday morning beat. Peter ran 28.45 in his 24th Letterkenny parkrun since the inception of the event in February.
Barry Mackey showed his versatility on Sunday evening. He travelled to Inishowen, where he ran an excellent time of 5.52 for the Main Street Mile Road Race in Buncrana.
LAC athlete, Phil Boyle, was in the news during the week. The modest Arranmore Islander had been on holiday in Spain 2 months ago and, while out running one day, his quick reaction helped save a man who had got into trouble in the sea. Phil had kept quiet about his heroics until the local media unearthed the story.
