Letterkenny AC Club Notes

October 2009

THE action this week switches to The Phoenix Park, Dublin, where we will have a number of our top athletes bidding for international honours.

The Gerry Farnham Cross Country and Masters International Trials will bring some of the cream of Irish athletics to the Dublin venue on Sunday.

LAC athletes taking part will be Maria McCambridge and Michelle English in the ladies and Ciaran Doherty, Gary Crossan, Darren McBrearty, Danny Mooney, Ciaran Bannon, Johnny Patton, Brian Phelim and Hugh Gallagher.

The club wishes all our athletes all the best in their quest for international vests. Well done to our Novice team who finished fourth place in the Donegal Athletic Board cross country championship’s in Killybegs at the weekend.

The team was led home by Paul McGlinchey who finished in 8th place and he was followed by Ciaran Higgins (13th), Aidan McKenna (14) and Dara Crossan (21st). Well done also to debutantes Gabriel McCrossan (23) and Darren McCrudden (24) and hopefully we will see a lot more of these athletes in the weeks and months ahead during the cross country season.

The Donegal Senior Club Cross Country Championship’s will take in Ballybofey on Sunday week. Meanwhile, a number of our athletes are continuing their preparations for the Dublin City Marathon on the October Bank Holiday Monday. They include Gary Crossan, Pauric McKinney, Paul Toner, Charlie Page, Ciaran O’Donnell, Aidan McKenna, Lester Dobson, Ciaran McMonagle, Mark Bolton and Adrian Callaghan. Also in training are locals like Seamus Temple, Stephen Maguire and Ronan Brophy.

Congratulations to John Coleman who ran 1.42 in a half marathon in Galway. This was a ‘pb’ on home ground for the well known and affable AIB bank official.

Garvan McCloskey is busy training for the New York Marathon on the first weekend in November. The popular bank official is grinding away at the miles and looks promising for a good run.

The club would like to express our deepest sympathy to club chairman, Gerry Davenport on the death of his mother in-law, Jean McCallion 333, Carnhill, Derry. Our sympathy is extended to Gerry’s wife, Donna, and all the family on their bereavement. The funeral took place on Tuesday in St Bridget’s Church, Carnhill.

The lotto numbers drawn at the weekend were 6,10, 18 and 20. Michael Black matched three numbers. The jackpot this Saturday night in The Glencar Inn will be €1,410.

There was a Disability Awareness training course in the Aura Leisure Centre on Monday.
