Letterkenny AC Club Notes

Week 22

May 2009

THE HSE teams took the honours in the 32nd annual Hickey, Clarke and Langan Intefirms 5k Road Race in Letterkenny last Wednesday night.

A record 162 athletes went to the line for the event hosted by Letterkenny A.C. It was the biggest turnout for a 5k race in the town for over 20 years. The club would like to thank everyone who took part and those that assisted out in any way, particularly the gardai and stewards and race counters.

The HSE men’s team took the title with their three scorers comprising of a doctor, paramedic and maintenance man. The team was led home by Doctor Ciaran Bannon, who finished 6th in a time of 16.20. He was followed in 18th place by paramedic, Ciaran Higgins (17.36) and the third scorer was Louis Bradley in a superb time of 19.33.

The event marked another milestone for Letterkenny man, Kevin Toner, who finished his 32nd consecutive Interfirms. He has ran every race since its inception and finished first Over-60 in a time of 18.22. Congratulations to Kevin who is a great inspiration to all club members.

This week the focus switched on Wednesday night to the Buncrana 5k as part of the Grand Prix series and a large number of athletes were due to travel for the event. Well done to Ciaran O’Sullivan (3rd) and Sean McFadden (6th) who competed well in a triathlon in Derry at the weekend.

The lotto numbers last weekend were: 14, 15, 16 and 23. There was only one match three winner- Joe Devine, C/O Glencar Inn. The jackpot next week is €1,210.
