LETTERKENNY JUVENILE ATHLETICS
MEDALS AT COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS
May 2009
Finn Valley centre hosted the county juvenile track and field championships for 9/13 age groups on Friday evening and around 200 children enjoyed some wonderful events on what turned out to be exciting action.
Letterkenny ac juveniles played their part with some fine individual performances in what for many was their club debuts at this level.
U/10 girls Laura Crossan showed she can become as talented as her elder sister Arlene by romping home to gold medal in the 500 metres (1.50.3). Jessica Gallagher also indicated a bright future reaching the final of the 60 metres.
Certainly the Crossan talent was emphasised in double gold girl Arlene (U/11) in the 60 metres and 600 metres (2.02). this girl can dominate her age group for many years on this form.
Shauna McFadden (U/11) also showed promise in the long jump (2.82).
U/12 girls saw Ciara Finnegan take silver in her 600 metres (2.03) as well as well as reaching the final of the 60 metres, so another well established name in Letterkenny athletics steps forward.
Eimear Lynch also showed promise in the long jump.
U/13 girl Natasha Mc Ardle also followed with gold in the 600 metres and her time of (1.52) again showed a strong link to another fine athletic name. Natasha also lined up for the final of the 60 metres but she looks a fine middle distance prospect.
LAC boys were in good form and can look forward to the Ulster championships in two weeks time.
U/10 boys Conor O`Donnell led the way with a fine gold double in the 60 metres and 500 metres (1.44)also taking silver in the long jump (3.08).
Michael McGrory (U/11) took bronze in the 60 metres at U/12, LAC have some very fine prospects with the Toal twins to the fore.
Oisin took gold in the 600 metres and long jump (3.53) but had to settle for silver in the 60 metres behind his brother Darragh who also had a fine long jump (3.35). Ciarin Kelly took bronze in the 60 metres making it a 1-2-3 for Letterkenny ac in the sprint which augers well for a relay team in this age group with Lochlan Purdy also in the blanket finish for the 60 metres medals.
Steve Gallagher is another who shows fine promise, Matthew Gallagher bronze in the shot putt (7.53) and the Mc Crossan twins Ethan and Stefan completed a fine performance by this talented squad.
Enda McBride (U/13) dominated his age group taking gold in the 60 metres and 600 metres (1.58) so a good all round display by the Letterkenny juveniles.
