Brendan Boyce set a new Donegal record in the 50K walk in Slovenia at the weekend when posting a time of four hours, eight minutes and seven seconds. Unfortunately for Brendan, he was a mere eight seconds outside the qualifying time for the World championships which will take place in Mexico later in the year.
Maria McCambridge also set a personal best of 75 minutes and when winning the Omagh Half Marathon on Saturday afternoon. Brian Thursby Pelham was the club's best male runner and his time of 1:13:47 earned him sixth place overall in a field of 1,200 finishers. Other club runners who competed were Ciaran Doherty (36th in 1:19:14), Aidan McKenna (63rd in 1:22:32 and a new personal best), Dearbhla McFadden (626th in 1:51:17) and Patricia McKenna (656th in 1:53:07).
Finn Valley's Kieran Carlin claimed victory in the last of the four race 5K series on Friday night when leading the field of 78 home in a time of 16:03. Second was Letterkenny AC's Ivan Toner with Finn Valley's Ian Ward third in 16:20. Finn Valley's Catriona McGranaghan won the senor women's section in 17:53. Letterkenny had three other runners in the top ten - Garvin Walker (8th in 17:28), Marcus McClintock (9th in 17:33) and Joe English (10th in 17:36).
The annual 3K which takes place on Easter Sunday, April 4th. Registrations will be taken at Aura from 10 am, with the race starting at 11.15 am at the Esso depot on Port Road. Entry fee is five euro, spot prizes only. Refreshments will be served after the race at Aura at 12 noon.
The club extends its thanks to all who supported the table quiz held in Arena 7 on Wednesday night which raised over 300 euro. It is hoped to plan another quiz shortly at the same venue.
There was no winner of the club's lotto jackpot. The numbers drawn were 6, 18, 19 and 24 . The four match four winners were Julie Orr, Eamonn McConigley, Bridgeen McGrath and Michael Carr and each receive 20 euro.
