Silver lining for Darren in Birmingham

Letterkenny Athletic Club’s Darren McBrearty finished second in the U-20s 1,500m with an excellent time of 3:53.38, while his team mate and training partner Mark English came seventh in the same race when he clocked 4:00.53 in Birmingham at the weekend. The race was won by fellow Irishman Paul Robinson in 3:52.73.
In the U-17s, Ruairi Finnegan also had a day to remember when he came over the line in third place, also in the 1,500m, in 4:00.39. Finnegan came in behind Andrew Monaghan from Lagan Valley, with 3:57.65, and Patrick Monaghan, from the same club, on 3:58.83.
On Friday night, Letterkenny AC’s Ivan Toner won the second of Finn Valley’s 5K in a time of 16:38, with Frank Chaney of Finn Valley second in 16:45 and Inishowen’s James Browne third in 16:49. Martin Gormley (17:58) and Kieran McBride (18:09) made the top ten by placing night and tenth respectively. For the full list of results CLICK HERE
Gavin Crawford clocked a personal best of 34:41 to place second in a 10K in Newry, Co Down on Sunday.
There was no winner of the club’s weekly jackpot drawn on Saturday night in the Glencar Inn. The numbers drawn were 5, 9, 17 and 19. Paul McCormack was the only match three winner and wins 80 euro. This weekend’s jackpot will be 1,610 euro.
