Congratulations to Ciaran Doherty on winning the Donegal 5K road championship title in Stranorlar in Sunday. The Letterkenny AC man clocked 15:03 with Keith Shiels of Foyle Valley in second in 15:13 and Inishowen’s Pauric McKinney third in 15:45.
The senior men’s team took silver medals – Ciarn Doherty’s back up being provided by Ivan Toner (16:21), Padraig Friel (17:46) and Enda McBride (18:40). The senior women’s team also took silver medals – the scoring quartet was made up of Irene McFadden (20:05), Shauna McGeehin (20:18), Jane McGinley (20:46) and Deirdre Diver (21:28).
Ciaran Doherty was the winner of the Shaun Graham 3K Memorial Road Race held on Tuesday week last in Letterkenny in a time of 8:56. The race attracted a crowd of around 1,500 and the proceeds raised will go to the emergency department at Letterkenny General Hospital.
The club had a number of runners taking part in the Waterside Half Marathon on Saturday. Among them were Paul McGlinchey (12th in 1:16:43), Raymond Birch (35th in 1:22:33) and Pat McKenna (229th in 1:39:29). The race, which had 1,590 finishers, was won by Twin Towns native, Gary Murray – the St Malachy’s athlete posted a time of 1:08:01.
The club’s annual general meeting takes place on Monday, September 22 in the Station House Hotel at 8 pm.
Training continues every Tuesday and Thursday night at the Danny McDaid Track. New members welcome.
