IT’S all systems go for the club social-barbeque night tomorrow (Saturday) evening. There is a lot of interest in the event and a great chance for members and their partners-families to enjoy themselves and raise funds for the club.
The crack kicks off at 6.30 pm and food will be served through the evening. For further details contact C.J.McGinley (087-2267167). The cover charge is €10 per adult or €20 per family. Again, all proceeds will go towards club funds.
Well done to all 14 athletes who travelled to Ballybofey last Friday night for the Finn Valley 5k. Gary Crossan led the club home finishing in third place in a time of 16.16. He was closely followed by Ivan Toner in fourth place (16.26), Martin Gormley (12th- 17.35) Dara Crossan (14th 17.41), and Charlie Page (19th-18.03).
Kevin Toner finished in a super time of 18.44 (26th) in the Masters Men Over 50 while others to enjoy good times were Gerry Ryan (19.08), Noel Lynch (19.18) Neil McCollum (19.54),Richard Raymond (20.17) and Gerard Mullen (20.46). Laura Corbett finished in a time of 24.07.
Tonight (Friday) the action switches to Rathmullan for the annual 5k. It promises to be another cracking race. Well done to club legend Danny McDaid who was a special guest on the Newstalk ‘ Off the Ball’ radio programme broadcast to the nation live from McGinley’s Bar in Letterkenny on Monday night.
Danny’s superb career was acknowledged and there was a special phone in tribute from his good friend,. Gerry Kiernan who described Danny as a ‘legend’ in the world of athletics.
Plans are continuing for the fundraising Flag Day around Letterkenny on Saturday, August 15.
