Letterkenny AC Club Notes

Week 25

June 2009

IT is a busy time on a number of fronts for the club. On the athletics side tonight (Friday) a number of club athletes will travel to the annual 5k in Lifford as part of the Grand Prix series.

Last Saturday night the club had a number of runners at the 10k in Buncrana. The ever improving Johnny Patton led the club home finishing in second place. Others who participated included, Ciaran O'Donnell, Adrian Callaghan, Aidan McKenna (PB 39.05), Laura Corbett and Kevin Ferry.

Several club members were involved in hosting the Special Olympics Ulster Games at the Aura Leisure Centre over the weekend. It was a fantastic spectacle and our involvement was well noted and highly appreciated by the organisers.

Pauric McKinney was 8th in a time of 15:22 in the Ulster NI Senior 5,000 metres in Antrim on Saturday.

Meanwhile, our fundraising drives continue off the track. On Saturday, August 15 we are having a Flag Day collection around Letterkenny. This will require the help and assistance of every club member. The proceeds will go towards club funds. The key organisers are Garvan McCloskey (086-6055541), Mark Bolton, Sharon Bradley and Laura Corbett who would appreciate any help.

Meanwhile, plans are now at an advanced stage to have a club social- barbaque night at the clubhouse on Friday, July 3. This will be a fundraiser for the club. The key organiser is C.J McGinley who is being assisted by Richard Raymond, Garvan McCloskey, Louise Finnegan, and another few club officers. It promises to be a great night's crack and entertainment. There will be a cover charge of €10 per adult or €20 per family which covers all the food. The juveniles will be catered up until 9pm and we hope to get the evening good on the grill at around 6.30pm.

Further details will be forwarded to club members who are free to bring their wives, girlfriends or family-friends for what should be a cracking night. Anyone interested should contact C.J on 087-2267167.

There were four match two winners in the club lotto at the weekend. They were Lisa Shiels, Kenny Chambers, Pauric McKinney and Mark Bolton. The jackpot this week is €1,240 and the draw takes place in The Glencar Inn.
