THE action this weekend begins tonight (Friday) with the 5k run in Lifford. A large number of athletes from LAC are travelling to the border town as part of the Grand Prix series. The race begins at 7.15 p.m.

Congratulations to Darren McBrearty who got a qualifying time for the 800 metres for the World Junior Championships. The DCU student qualified for the 1500 metres a fortnight ago and last weekend ran 1.50.52 in Watford to make the qualifying time.

Meanwhile, Ciaran Doherty, won the Steeplechase at the Northern Ireland Track and Field Championships in Antrim on Saturday afternoon. The Rosses man emerged winner in a time of 9.20.

A number of LAC athletes were in Buncrana on Saturday for the 10k run. Fionnuala Diver, broke 40 minutes to win 10K in Buncrana - following on from a 5k earlier in the season. There were also PBs for Paul Cosgrove - 42:04 and Kevin McDevitt - 37:05

The numbers drawn in the lotto were 1, 13, 22, 23. Four match two winners - Sydney Hunter, Brian Kelly, Hugh Devenney and Paddy Gaffey - 20 euro each. Jackpot this weekend in The Glencar Inn is €1.120.

Congratulations to Maria McCambridge who finished second in the Women’s Mini Marathon in Dublin.
