BACK IN ACTION SPORTSHALL TRIALS
Juvenile Athletics
January 2010
Following the recent bad weather, sports certainly took a back seat as the cold snap put paid to most club actions.
Hopefully over the incoming week Donegal’s young athletes will get the chance to loosen up and avail of the Sportshall trials that have been arranged.
Donegal’s young U13 and U15 girls and boys are extremely fortunate in having a provincial championship which culminates in March where the Ulster winners in each age group qualifying for the AVIVA grand finals in Birmingham’s national indoor arena, and certainly Donegal’s participation in these finals have been second to none over the past fifteen years. “So who wants the chance to go to Birmingham (April 16th/17th/18th).
With the west Ulster finals arranged for Enniskillen on Thursday 11th February, Sportshall co-ordinator Neil Cullen has arranged trials in all disciplines involved in Sportshall athletics. Hopefully clubs and schools will encourage athletes U13 and U15 (on the 1st September 2009) to attend these trials.
Next Sunday 17th January – Abbey Voc. School Donegal town (registration of athletes 12 noon).
Monday 18th January – Rosses Community school Dungloe (Reg. 6.30pm).
Monday 25th January – Carndonagh Community school (reg 6.30pm).
Athletes can compete in any or all trials. It is important that Donegal’s most versatile youngsters avail of these trials so the best teams can represent the county in the up- coming action. A €5.00 fee for all athletes taking part, this is to help with expenses involved in travelling to Enniskillen 11th February and Ulster final (Magherafelt Thursday 11th March). Teams must be selected following last trial in Carndonagh. All enquires to 087-2257395.
