Letterkenny AC's Maria McCambridge took victory in the Greencastle five mile road race held on St Stephen's Day. Maria's time of 29:50 placed her 14th overall in a field of 583 finishers. Other Letterkenny AC runners who took part included Gary Crossan (10th overall in 28:37) and Martin Gormley (29th in 31:45).
The race was won by Joe McAllistar of St Malachy's in 26:30 from Andrew Agnew and Noel Collins.
On the same afternoon closer to home Letterkenny AC’s Michael Black placed third in the Finn Valley Boxing Day Handicap. Because of the poor conditions, the organisers decided to reduce the distance from 5K to 4K and started all runners at the one time. Ian Ward from the host club won the race in 12:36, with Kieran Carlin also from Finn Valley in 12:41 and Michael Black placing third in 12:42.Kieran Bannon, now based in Dublin, placed sixth in 13:19. A total of 217 runners and 200 walkers took path in annual event.
The annual Letterkenny AC turkey trot, which was cancelled on Sunday because of the inclement weather, has been rescheduled for Sunday, January 3rd at 11.30 am. The race will start and finish at the Ramada Hotel, with registrations being taken from 9.30 at Aura. The presentation of prizes will also take place at Aura.
Lerterkenny Athletic Club in conjunction with Letterkenny Pantomime Society will host Cinderella in An Grianan Theatre on Wednesday, January 27th at 8 pm. Tickets are 15 euro and are available from any club member.
There was no winner of the weekly jackpot at the weekend. The nummbrs drawn were 10, 14, 17 and 20. Mickey Black matched three numbeers and won 80 euro.
