Doherty wins Danny McDaid 15k

LETTERKENNY A.C athlete, Kieran Doherty won the 6th annual Danny McDaid 15m k road race in Letterkenny on Sunday. The Burtonport man finished the course in an impressive time of 49.19 to win the race for the second time in three years.
"I’m delighted with the win because I had much stamina work done in the lead in to the race. I was struggling a bit around 5k but by 9k I had recovered and finished strong," Ciaran said afterwards.Ciaran was followed home by his LAC colleague, Pauric McKinney who crossed the line in a time of50.41 followed by Declan Reid from City of Derry (51.07).
Maria McCambridge from LAC took the women’s title in a time of 54.22 followed by Catriona Jennings (56.15) and Helena Crossan (58.33).
A field of 171 took to the line for the prestigious event run in association with Crumlish Appliances, Sales and Repairs.
The Danny McDaid 15k is one of the highlights of the racing calendar and attracts top runners from all over the country. It is run in honour of double Olympian and LAC club stalwart, Danny McDaid who competed in the 1972 and 1976 Olympics for Ireland in Berlin and Melbourne.
Speaking after the race, Danny McDaid said he was delighted with the turnout and thanked all those who helped to organise the event.
