It was a memorable weekend for the Letterkenny AC senior mens team who won bronze team medals in the National 10k championships in Navan on Sunday afternoon.

It proved to be a highly successful day for the LAC club with Pauric McKinney (Over 40’s), Johnny Patton (Over 35’s) and the inspirational Kevin Toner (Over 60’s) also winning individual medals.
Pauric McKinney, first in the Over 40 category, led the team home in 10th place overall (31:51) closely followed by James McFadden, 14th (32:02) and Ciaran Doherty 16th (32:08). The team was completed by Johnny Patton, 3rd O-35 (33:19) in 27th place.
Thirteen club athletes made the trip to Navan for the event which attracted well over 300 runners from all over the country. As well as the four national winners there were some excellent runs from Letterkenny athletes with Ciaran Bannon (35.20), Humphrey Murphy and Johnny Patton all recording personal bests.
Club Chairman, Ciaran O’Donnell is fast regaining form running an excellent 37.55 while, Ivan Toner, Kevin Ferry, Aidan McKenna, Paul Toner and C.J McGinley also had strong runs on a tough course.
However, the run of the day came from the evergreen Kevin Toner who got second place in the Over-60 category. The 63 year-old was only pipped for first place in the last kilometre.
Another Letterkenny athlete, Caitriona Jennings, running with Rathfarnham Ladies, finished second overall. The race was won by Sean Connolly (Tallaght) with Vinny Mulvey and Michael Clohiseym both Raheny, finishing second and third respectively. Raheny won the team gold from Tallaght with LAC in third spot.
In the National University championship’s, Dan Mooney, had a fine performance coming in fifth place clocking two minutes dead for the 800 metres while John Coleman had a 4.08 marathon run in London (after picking up an injury at 16 miles). All club athletes are asked to support the North West 10k on Sunday and to turn out in club colours.
In the club lotto at the weekend held in the Glencar Inn the numbers drawn were: 2, 12, 14 and 22. The was one match three winner-Mary Gorman.
