Sportshall Athletics
Donegal Teams for Birmingham
April 2010
In a week when front page headlines in local papers gave out about un-mannerly juveniles some thirty one youngsters were preparing themselves for sporting trip of a life time.
A credit to their clubs, a credit to their schools, a credit to their parents, a credit to themselves and a credit to their county.
Three teams from Donegal, U13 girls and boys and U15 girls travel to the N.E.C venue in Birmingham to represent Ulster at the Aviva grand finals of Sportshall athletics on Sunday next (18th April). These young athletes from Tir Conaill A.C, Slieve Liag A.C, Letterkenny A.C, Rosses A.C and Inishowen A.C are certainly making the right headlines earning their places on these teams following trials at different venues and progressing through the Ulster championships with great displays.
Sunday next will see the culmination of their efforts as they compete in all of the exciting disciplines of Sportshall athletics against the elite juveniles from all over the U.K.
Making his umpteenth trip to these finals co-ordinator Neil Cullen says “it has been a pleasure to watch these fine young athletes compete in Ulster and how they have prepared for this trip. I want to thank various sponsors who have helped me to defray costs to these juveniles especially V.P Mc Mullin (solicitors Ballyshannon) who have helped supply the team with sweatshirts. They might not take the team titles but I have no doubt that several individuals and perhaps relay medals can be acknowledged in next week`s report from these finals. Sponsors who have helped can be assured that these youngsters can write the proper headlines re Donegal Youth. So good luck to the three teams and managers from myself, Clr. Jimmy Harte, Dinny Mc Ginley (T.D), Senator Brian O Donnell, Annagry N.S, Woodlands N.S, Carrick V.S, Pobáil Scoil Gweedore, Eddie Tinney. (ANY MORE SPONSORS WELCOME!!)
