WITHOUT doubt the star of the week is Maria McCambridge who has made the qualifying time for the London OIympics after a superb run in the Rome Marathon at the weekend.

Maria, achieved the qualification standard when she finished in a brilliant time of 2.36.37 (inside the Olympic A standard of 2.37).

Maria, who is married to local man, Gary Crossan, was the ninth woman overall in Rome and the 15th Irish athlete to London OIympics.

On the home front there was a record entry of over 200 athletes for the annual St Patrick’s Day 5k.

In a closely fought finish Johnny Patton pipped club colleague Michael Black to win the race in a time of16.26. Brian Crossan finished in fourth place (17.00) while Kevin Ferry (5th-17.04) Kieran McBride (6th- 17.08), Humphry Murphy (9th-17.25) and Paul Toner (10th- 17.26 all finished in the top ten.

Fionnnuala Diver was the first woman across the line in a time of 18.20.
